From the early days of the Quran revelation, many attempts have been made to make sense of its ayat. A thoughtful understanding of ayat has a direct relationship with how to correctly understand their meanings. And it is for this reason that a major challenge to interpreting the Quran is the accurate discovery of relationships among words. Ayah 67 from Surah Al-Furqan is one of ayat about which there is a difference of opinion among those who interpret this holy book. In this ayah, two words "esraf" and "eqtar" are presented as antonyms and the word "qavam" as the middle between these two extremes. As one of the main models and a method to represent the semantic deep structure of a text, the semiotic square is based on opposite relationships developed by Algirdas J. Greimas. The current study seeks to offer a deeper understanding of the concepts of ayah 67 from Surah Al-Furqan by exploring the dual opposites of "esraf" and "eqtar". In this research, "spending money" has been taken as the shared area between these two concepts and the sheer existence or absence of "money" is not important here. The research shows that "eqtar" componentially consits of the words "emsak" and "bakhl" while "esraf" is formed of the words like "tabzir" and "taafof". Between these two, there also exists other different ranges of spending money like "qavam" and "qenaat".
