Semantics is an appropriate method for clarifying the semantic network and understanding the discourse of the Quran. The “fitrah” is one of the noteworthy concepts in the Quran. Since the Qur'an does not provide an explicit dictionary definition of words, it is necessary to pay attention to its formal network in order to extract the meaning hidden in the word through the conceptual and usage characteristics of the words. In this article, with regard to the theory of schematic semantics, which aids in describing concepts in cognitive semantics, it was identified that “fitrah” has a central semantic schema defined as “a transformation that requires the negation of the previous state.” Other semantic schemas such as splitting, creation, manifestation, and so on contribute to establishing a similar system. The use of this word in the two contexts of “infitar” and “tafattur” carries a meaning of disorder, evolving from a state of construction to a state of destruction. It was also clarified that although the heavens and the earth are also created, the expression ‘fitrah’ is explicitly mentioned only in relation to humans. The religion that aligns with ‘fitrah’ is specific to humans, which serves as a distinguishing feature between humans and animals. Universality and comprehensive, the inability to be converted or changed, and being compatible with divine religion shape the semantic structure of human fitrah in the Quran. Within the semantic schema of “fateriyyat”, it was also identified that this word is complemented by concepts such as unity, guardianship, and sustenance.
