Abstract
This study aims to analyze the semantic domain of “نَشَرَ” and its cognate words including: “بَثَّ”, “شَتَتَ”, “نَثَرَ”, “بَعْثَرَ”, “نَسَفَ” and “فَرَّقَ” in the Holy Quran, and has examined the semantic network of these words using a descriptive-analytical method. The findings of the study, which were obtained by the method of component and comparative analysis, show that although all of these words are included in the macro-semantic domain of “نَشَرَ”, each of them has distinct semantic components and a unique semantic network; In a way that “بَثَّ” indicates organized and controlled dispersion such as the spread of beings, “شَتَتَ” indicates inherent separation and heterogeneous rupture such as the scattering of hearts, “نَثَرَ” indicates disorderly and irreversible scattering such as the scattering of particles, “فَرَّقَ” indicates conscious separation and creation of a boundary, and from this root indicates dispersion. “بَعْثَرَ” indicates sudden transformation and complete revelation on the Day of Judgment, and “نَسَفَ” indicates complete destruction and uprooting. Meanwhile, the pivotal word “نَشَرَ” stands in semantic contrast with other words by emphasizing gradual expansion, revival, and movement towards unity such as the coming to life of the earth and the resurrection of the dead. The final result is that the purposeful selection of each of these words in specific Quranic contexts not only demonstrates the semantic capacity of these words in conveying ontological and eschatological concepts, but also provides a deeper understanding of the interpretive and rhetorical details of the Holy Quran.
